Diet for Hair Growth
Free 7-day diet chart for hair growth and hair fall — protein, iron, zinc and biotin-rich Indian or global meals. Veg, non-veg or Jain.
Can diet stop hair fall?
Diet helps when hair fall is caused by low protein, iron deficiency or crash dieting — very common in India. It will not stop genetic thinning or hair loss from thyroid disease or PCOS on its own. The generator puts protein- and iron-rich dishes first, keeps calories at maintenance (or a gentle deficit if you choose), and adds seeds for zinc and omega-3.
| Nutrient | Why hair needs it | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Protein | Hair is made of keratin, a protein | Dal, paneer, eggs, fish, chicken, soy |
| Iron | Low iron is a leading cause of hair shedding in women | Greens, rajma, chana, meat, eggs |
| Zinc | Hair growth and repair | Pumpkin seeds, nuts, dal, dairy |
| Biotin | Deficiency is rare, but needed for keratin | Eggs, nuts, seeds |
| Vitamin D | Low levels linked with hair loss | Sunlight, eggs, fish, fortified milk |
Hair shedding 2–3 months after a crash diet, illness, surgery or childbirth (telogen effluvium) usually recovers on its own once nutrition is good. Patchy loss, a widening parting or hair loss with irregular periods needs a doctor — ask for iron (ferritin), thyroid and vitamin D tests.
Frequently asked questions
Which food is best for hair growth?
No single food — hair needs enough protein and iron most of all. Eggs, dal, paneer, fish, greens, nuts and seeds together cover most needs.
Do biotin supplements help hair?
Only if you are deficient, which is rare. High-dose biotin can also interfere with thyroid and other blood tests.
How long before diet changes help hair?
Hair grows about 1 cm a month, so it takes around 3–6 months to see a difference.
