Which vaccination schedule should I follow?

  • India — IAP: the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (ACVIP 2025) schedule followed by most private paediatricians. It includes extra vaccines such as flu, typhoid conjugate, hepatitis A, varicella and MMR.
  • India — Government (UIP): the Universal Immunization Programme schedule, free at government hospitals and health centres. It covers BCG, polio, pentavalent, rotavirus, PCV, MR, JE (in some districts) and DPT boosters.
  • USA — CDC: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention childhood schedule.

Enter your baby’s birth date and the calculator lists every dose with its due date, marks the next visit and lets you add reminders to your calendar.

Key differences: IAP vs Government (UIP)

Vaccine IAP (private) UIP (government)
Polio IPV injections at 6, 10, 14 weeks + boosters OPV drops + fractional IPV at 6 & 14 weeks and 9 months
PCV 6, 10, 14 weeks + booster at 15 months 6 & 14 weeks + booster at 9–12 months
Measles MMR at 9 & 15 months and 4–6 years MR at 9–12 & 16–24 months
Also in IAP Flu (yearly), typhoid, hepatitis A, varicella, HPV —

Tips for vaccination day

  • Carry your baby’s vaccination card every time.
  • Breastfeed during or after the injection — it comforts babies.
  • Mild fever or fussiness for a day is common; ask your doctor about paracetamol dosing.
  • A missed dose does not mean starting again — your doctor will catch up.

USA note (2026): a revised CDC schedule issued in January 2026 was put on hold by a US federal court in March 2026, so the 2025 CDC schedule shown here remains the one published on cdc.gov. The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend these vaccines. Check with your paediatrician for the latest advice.

Frequently asked questions

What vaccines are given at birth in India?

BCG, the birth dose of oral polio (OPV-0) and hepatitis B (birth dose), ideally before leaving the hospital.

Are optional vaccines really needed?

Vaccines such as flu, typhoid, hepatitis A and varicella are recommended by the IAP but are not part of the free government programme. Discuss them with your paediatrician.

What if my baby missed a vaccine?

Visit your doctor as soon as possible. Most vaccines can be given late without restarting the series; your doctor will set a catch-up plan.
