Ideal Weight Calculator
Find your ideal weight for your height — healthy BMI range (including Asian cut-offs) and the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas, in kg or lb.
What is my ideal weight?
There is no single perfect weight for a height — a healthy weight is a range. Doctors mostly use the BMI range of 18.5–24.9. For people of South Asian origin, the WHO and Indian guidelines suggest a lower upper limit — about 18.5–22.9 — because health risks start at a lower BMI. The calculator shows both, plus four classic “ideal body weight” formulas used in medicine.
| Formula | Women | Men |
|---|---|---|
| Devine (1974) | 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft | 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft |
| Robinson (1983) | 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch | 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch |
| Miller (1983) | 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg per inch | 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg per inch |
| Hamwi (1964) | 45.5 kg + 2.2 kg per inch | 48 kg + 2.7 kg per inch |
These formulas were made for adults over 5 feet and do not consider muscle or frame size, so use them as a guide alongside your BMI range and waist size.

Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal weight for a 5 ft 3 in woman?
By BMI, about 47–63 kg (104–139 lb), or about 47–58 kg with the Asian cut-off. The Devine formula gives about 52 kg.
Why do the formulas give different answers?
They were built from different populations and for different purposes (such as medicine dosing). That is why a range is more useful than one number.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
BMI does not separate muscle from fat, so very muscular people can have a high BMI and be healthy. Waist size and body fat add useful detail.
